Lingual Braces

Lingual braces work similarly to traditional metal braces, but they have one main difference – the brackets are placed on the backs of a patient’s teeth instead of the fronts. Because they’re placed behind the teeth (the lingual side), others won’t be able to see that you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment. As they follow the same basic concept as traditional braces, they work in the same manner, although they may not be suitable for the most complex orthodontic conditions. It’ll take a bit longer to get used to lingual braces, but if you’re looking for an “invisible braces” type of treatment, we encourage you to ask your Wellington and Loxahatchee, FL orthodontist about them!

Advantages of Lingual Braces

While lingual braces are more expensive than traditional metal braces, they offer many different benefits:

  • The most obvious benefit is that lingual braces provide a practically invisible treatment; others won’t have any idea that you’re wearing them.

  • Traditional metal braces can get worn out and stained over time, making them look unattractive. If this happens to lingual braces, it’s not really a big deal since others won’t be able to see them anyway.

  • There are a variety of designs and bracket systems that can be customized to your needs.

  • If you play musical instruments (such as a saxophone or a trumpet), the braces won’t hinder your ability.

  • While lingual braces offer these many additional benefits, they’re still just as effective for most orthodontic problems.
