Adolescent Treatment

Share:

Adolescent orthodontic treatment is normal orthodontic treatment with braces or clear aligners once the permanent teeth have erupted. The braces and/or aligners straighten the permanent teeth and finish correctly aligning the jaws. By age 12, most if not all permanent teeth have erupted. Crooked teeth, gaps and bad bites can easily be detected and often become a concern for patients and their parents at this age. These problems rarely self-correct so this is when most parents seek orthodontic treatment for their children.

For many teenagers, wearing braces or aligners is a part of life – an important part of life because it is well documented that a beautiful and healthy smile can not only enhance your appearance, but also improve access for better dental hygiene, boost your self-confidence and enhance the way others perceive you.

Children at this age are growing rapidly, and Dr. Shults can usually take advantage of these growth spurts to help shape the bite and teeth correctly. Pre-teens and teenagers have high metabolisms, which can help shorten overall treatment time, reduce the discomfort of orthodontic treatment and increase post treatment stability.
